I’m an audio-visual performer, recording artist, professional coach for creatives, inspirational speaker and music educator.

What ties it all together is my love for everything creative!

I love helping others SHINE on the stage, in the classroom, at their workplace and throughout their lives.

I help creative professionals feel seen, celebrated and heard in their communities and beyond!

Biography

Multi award-winning Di Zhao Flutes Artist, Rozalind MacPhail inspires and empowers through live music, film and storytelling. She explores new ways to combine image and sound in works that speak honestly of people, place and the human experience.

  • Based in St. John’s, NL, Rozalind MacPhail has expanded from looping flutist to one of Canada's most unique and captivating multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriters. MacPhail seeks opportunities to inspire and empower through live music, film and storytelling. She explores innovative ways to combine image and sound in works that speak honestly of people, place and the human experience.

    A classically-trained flutist, MacPhail layers moody vocals, electrifying flute loops, omnichord and driving electronics through her effects pedals and the digital audio workstation, Ableton Live. MacPhail’s music is emotive and cinematic, mixing elements of folk, indie, electronica and classical. One of Canada’s most buzzed about Di Zhao artists, she’s produced numerous solo albums, composed music for film and toured internationally over the last two decades.

    She was nominated for ECMA’s “Industry Innovator of the Year” (2023) and won MusicNL’s “Music Educator of the Year” in 2022.

    MacPhail grew up in Canada on a small group of islands nestled in the harbour of Toronto, Ontario called Toronto Island. She has lived in many parts of Canada but it was the artistically vibrant city of St. John’s, Newfoundland that stole her heart. MacPhail has recorded numerous albums, composed music for film and toured internationally over the last two decades.

    She’s currently producing her electro-folk album, PUSH & PULL which features music production by Pick a Piper aka Brad Weber of 3x JUNO-winning Canadian group Caribou.

    The songs and films from PUSH & PULL are featured in MacPhail’s keynote concert, INSPIRATION SOUP. This engaging and interactive hybrid concert experience hits stages throughout Canada, USA, Europe and Scandinavia in 2025.

I’m an island girl at heart. I was raised on Toronto Island and now live on the most eastern tip of a much bigger island in Canada, the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

I almost joined the circus! I auditioned for Cirque du Soleil but a different destiny was in store for me. Had I joined the circus, I may never have become a singer-songwriter!

Before I became a songwriter, I was “Mystery Flute Girl”, performing as guest flutist with celebrated bands and artists including, Yo La Tengo, Lou Barlow, Constantines and more.

I began writing and recording my own songs when I turned 30 years old. It is my mission to document every aspect of my songwriting journey until the day I die.

The 1st time I toured to NL, I was touring solo across Canada with a bus pass. When I reached Cape Breton, the bus pass ended so I hitched a ride with a trucker to St. John's!
