I've been super inspired to do some deep dives int I've been super inspired to do some deep dives into my purpose, thanks to ArtsMBA guest speaker, Jade Simmons. If you're not familiar with @officialjadesimmons yet, do yourself a favour and pick up her new book, PURPOSE THE REMIX.

Jade states that purpose is "the thing that happens in others when you do what you do." Brilliant, right? 🥰

One of our pieces of homework has been to interview people we trust about how we move others in the world. After collecting that data (which was such a moving experience), we worked on forming a statement about our purpose.

Here's what I have been playing around with although I'm sure it will keep evolving:

"My purpose is to inspire others into seeing what's possible for them as they discover what makes them truly special."

I would love to hear your thoughts about this! What happens for you when I show up in your world? I'm so curious! ❤️
My heart is bursting right now by this exciting ne My heart is bursting right now by this exciting news! I've been invited to be an ARTIST IN RESIDENCE for @lawnyavawnya ❤️

Lawnya Vawnya has always been one of my all-time favourite multi-day festivals. They celebrate everything I believe in. They've always been huge champions of independent music and they bring the most amazing creative minds together.

I've always dreamed of the day I'd get to contribute to the magic of Lawnya Vawnya in my own special way.

For a full week in April, I'll be taking over the Lawnya Vawnya headquarters to work on producing tracks for my collaborative project, PUSH & PULL. This project features my voice, flutes and omnichord and includes electronic music production by @pickapiper_coyhaste with visuals by @joshua_m._caine.

I've been needing a quiet space where I can explore, create and produce without disruption. I envision lots of flute tracks, omnichord and singing my heart out.

In addition, we'll be finding ways for me to do some education outreach in the city to help inspire and empower emerging artists.

Thank you Lawnya Vawnya. I'm so honoured by this opportunity which will be sure to help me explore, develop, shine and share!
Wearing my NL Musicians' Association - AFM Local 8 Wearing my NL Musicians' Association - AFM Local 820 hat today as I chair an online Membership Meeting where we focus on reviewing our proposed bylaws changes with Local 820 members. It has taken over a year to finalize this language. Definitely not sexy but necessary. Got everything ready, including a land acknowledgement to start off the meeting. Now I wait on this sunny day to see if anyone shows up. Fingers crossed! 😀
What a moving experience it was to speak about the What a moving experience it was to speak about the NL Musicians Emergency Fund at the @newfoundlandsymphonyorchestra concert. Their incredible performance brought me to tears. We have such an outstanding orchestra in Newfoundland and Labrador. I was overwhelmed by the generosity of audience members who spoke to me about the importance of this fund. Donations keep coming in as we speak! There are so many good people in the world. ❤️
It’s time to raise money for our music community It’s time to raise money for our music community so that no working musician has to financially struggle during times of crisis.

I’m headed to the Arts and Culture Centre tonight to help raise awareness for the NL Musicians’ Emergency Fund.

So pumped to experience the @newfoundlandsymphonyorchestra performing their Masterworks 4 concert!
Look at that GREAT BIG SMILE! ❤️ My flute stu Look at that GREAT BIG SMILE! ❤️

My flute student, Wesley did an outstanding job on his Royal Conservatory remote exam today! It took everything in me not to cry as I watched him shine.

Little did he know that he was playing the most challenging repertoire in his level. He performed in one of the hardest situations I've ever faced as a performer - that of playing our hearts out to a computer. That takes a huge amount of courage and focus. Super proud of him!
As I wait with my jacket and winter boots already As I wait with my jacket and winter boots already on 15 minutes before I even get picked up, it’s hit me. I’m nervous about my student’s exam!!! Despite the fact that I know he’s gonna play great. Can any of my teacher/coach friends relate?!!! ❤️
Woke up to this outside our bedroom window! Gotta Woke up to this outside our bedroom window! Gotta love it when your student’s parents offer to pick you up so you don’t have to shovel out your car! ❤️

This is going to be so much fun. Brings back memories of me doing Royal Conservatory of Music exams when I was a kid. Wesley’s gonna rock it. 😊
Murphy’s Law would have it that we’re getting Murphy’s Law would have it that we’re getting a snowstorm right in time for me to have to drive to my student Wesley’s house for his Royal Conservatory of Music remote exam that takes place tomorrow. Hope this dies down by then! ⁣
⁣
I’m feeling so proud of Wesley. It’s been months of preparation for a 20-minute exam that takes place over Zoom and it’s his first one. He’s practiced every day in 2023 to get ready for this and now he gets to shine! ⁣
⁣
So excited for him! 😊
Who loves getting presents in the mail?!!! I do! 😊

Thanks to @simone.grace.seol for this awesome Joyful Marketing package that even includes a sleep mask and the most fitting affirmation card considering how much I love lizards!

My heart is filled to the brim! ❤️
BE WHO YOU ARE ❤️ I'm pretty sure this has go BE WHO YOU ARE ❤️

I'm pretty sure this has got to be one of the very worst bedhead pictures of me, ever! I'm definitely NOT a morning person.

So why the heck am I sharing this with you? It's an experiment after some seriously inspiring coaching sessions I've been taking through Joyful Marketing and ArtsMBA.

"Your job is to be who you are so that people can find you." - @kristenskoveking

"Lean into who you are and lean into what you know." - @jennyclift.coach

OK ladies, this morning look is the real deal and what you shared with me over the past 24 hours is totally BLOWING MY MIND so here we go.

Let's see how this experiment unfolds, shall we? 😀
WHO SAYS YOU CAN'T KEEP A DAY JOB WHEN YOU'RE A SE WHO SAYS YOU CAN'T KEEP A DAY JOB WHEN YOU'RE A SERIOUS ARTIST? ❤️

This has always stumped me. The attitude that you're not a serious artist unless you have given up your day job. Well I'm proof that you can do both!

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I wear a different hat in the music community. I work as Executive Director of NL Musicians' Association - AFM Local 820. It's a job I've been working for the past 12 years. Sure, it can definitely get stressful to manage a music career as I work in an arts administrative capacity, especially when I'm touring a lot but it's taught me so much and definitely makes me a better artist.

I've learned so much about how to work with others, how to be a better leader, how to manage finances and how to manage my time. It fills my heart with so much joy to be able to contribute to the music community through serving our members. We've come a long way in the past 12 years!
I'm feeling totally LIT UP by all of the inspiring I'm feeling totally LIT UP by all of the inspiring online learning experiences I've been taking in this week, including lots of night school!

Never in a million years would I have ever thought I'd be saying that when the pandemic began 3 years ago.

I think back to that time when I was feeling totally exhausted and overwhelmed by the hours I spent online and now, it's such a rewarding experience.

I get to rock my hats and pjs, turn off the camera to do a yoga pose when I feel like it, make myself yummy drinks and wrap myself in cozy blankets when I need some extra comfort.

I friggin' LOVE the freedom of online learning! 🥰

How about you? Any gift that came out of the pandemic that you never thought was possible?
5 THINGS YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT ME ❤️ ⚡️ 5 THINGS YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT ME ❤️

⚡️ I'm a deeply introverted person who constantly struggles with speaking up in a group of others. I often wait to be the last person to speak. I often get filled with so much anxiety if I'm asked a question about something I don't feel prepared to answer.

⚡️ I experience crazy amounts of stage fright before every big thing - whether it's a performance, photoshoot, presentation, board meeting or interview. This is why I meditate, do yoga and can't speak to people before shows. It takes all of my focus to keep myself in a calm state. Once I'm on the stage, I love it but it takes everything inside of me to get there.

⚡️ I was body-shamed by kids so bad in school that I still have crazy anxiety about changing in front of others, even my husband. The clothes I feel most secure in are always the baggiest things I can find, like my husband's hoodies! Ha ha!

⚡️ I require more alone time than most in order to feel balanced. I get overstimulated in social settings and as an intuitive empath, I can often feel too much and sense a lot of really unsettling things.

⚡️ I have a serious passion for lizards. I even have a tattoo of a lizard. I've owned many pet lizards in my lifetime and dream of seeing the komodo dragons in their real habitat someday. When I was a kid, I would spend entire days observing the lizards at my local zoo and dreamed of becoming a herpetoculturist.

So there you go! What are some lesser known facts about you? I'm so curious! 🥰
Who out there loves a great rainbow? I get totally Who out there loves a great rainbow? I get totally giddy from them, so much that I have crystals hanging in all of the windows around our apartment. Rainbows have been dancing around my workspace today and have been filling me up with so much delight. 🥰

🌈 Rainbows remind me to never miss those beautiful fleeting moments.
🌈 They bring me joy.

I've got some SUPERCHARGED days on the go that req I've got some SUPERCHARGED days on the go that require extra energy, focus and VEGGIE POWER! Ha ha! 😀

Whenever I'm preparing for big things, I put extra focus into my health, especially what I'm putting into my body.

🌱 Green smoothies with as much spinach I can fit into the blender at the start of the day helps me feel like I'm really taking care of myself.

🌱 Raw veggies to start off every meal. It takes a bit of focus but wow, it really makes a difference for how I show up in the world.

🌱 And more water than I think I can possibly drink! That starts with a huge glass of lemon water with oil of oregano first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. I always find I feel tired whenever I forget to drink water.

How do you keep yourself feeling energetic during hectic times? I wanna hear all about it! 🌱🌞🥦🍋🍎
YOU MATTER ❤️ You matter in such a HUGE way! YOU MATTER ❤️

You matter in such a HUGE way! Your unique presence in the world makes a big difference for others, even if you don't think that anyone notices. I promise you they do.

It may not always feel like what we're putting out there is making a difference for others. It may feel like those loving intentions fall on silent ears.

I had that exact feeling when I returned home from performing in the U.S. recently.

Here I had travelled for 17 hours to perform the first big event I have performed in many months and when it came time to perform, I played to 6 people.

All that effort. All that time preparing. All the money I invested. All it took to get there. I could have broken into tears right then and there.

I gave that performance my all but when I returned home, I felt totally depleted and defeated. Did my presence at that event make any difference at all?

Then the emails started coming in. The excited texts from people I had met there. The posts about how my presence had been inspiring for them.

But you know what really amazed me that I hadn't thought about until it was pointed out to me? That's who reached out. There are probably many others who never reached out but were somehow touched by my presence.

That's the thing. We never really know how our presence is touching others. I'm putting this here in case you needed to hear it today. You matter to me. You matter to the world. YOU MATTER. 🥰
FOR DIFFERENT RESULTS, TRY SOMETHING NEW ❤️ T FOR DIFFERENT RESULTS, TRY SOMETHING NEW ❤️

This is me trying the olympic sport, skeleton for the 1st time. An absolutely terrifying and exhilarating experience that changed my life. It inspired my electronic and drum-driven song, "Head First."

I can't begin to tell you how scared I was before I started racing down that track. The feeling I got from that experience is like no other feeling I have ever experienced in my life since. Sometimes we've gotta shake everything up to achieve different results.

I've got 3 complimentary coaching sessions left during the month of April to help elevate some beautiful souls to live their most meaningful lives.

Grab one while they're hot! Only 3 spots left.

SAY WHAT?!!!! I'm jumping up and down with SO MUCH SAY WHAT?!!!! I'm jumping up and down with SO MUCH EXCITEMENT and JOY right now! ❤️

A few months back, I applied for an equity scholarship to take part in @simone.grace.seol's JOYFUL MARKETING program. This is a program for coaches that I've dreamed of being a part of. I got accepted! 😀

Financial inequity is a real thing, especially as a working artist who lives in a country with an unfavourable currency exchange rate. Not to mention being a working musician with limited performing and teaching work opportunities available to me right now.

Thanks to Simone for her amazing vision to offer equity scholarships as well as offering tiered, class-equitable, pay-what-supports-you pricing. This is a game changer for my music career and my coaching business.

SO EXCITED to share what I discover as I pay this generous offering forward through my work as a coach, educator and musician!!! 🥰
PROUDLY COLLECTING A THOUSAND NO'S ❤️ "You ca PROUDLY COLLECTING A THOUSAND NO'S ❤️

"You can achieve anything you want in life if you're willing to receive a thousand no's." - Byron Katie

Here's some real truth about being a working artist that most artists don't share. We often silently experience so much rejection in our careers that it's miraculous how we even keep going!

Take this week for example. I've received 3 more no's to include in my fabulous collection. This makes it 15 no's this year so far.

No's for showcasing opportunities, festival performances, artist residency applications, funding opportunities and more.

⚡️ Does it sting? Of course!

⚡️ Does it make me fearful of my future? Yup.

⚡️ Does it make me scratch my head as I wonder why I torture myself like this? Definitely!

⚡️ Is it the world's way of telling me that I should give up? ABSOLUTELY NOT ❤️

These rejections often arrive in the form of either total silence until we hear the results of who we know getting the opportunity or by a generic rejection email. The results often sneak in when we have the least amount of protection on to help resist the blow.

The thing is, rejection is a huge part of being a working artist and it can be a helpful tool in our navigation toolbox. Some people are going to get what we do and others are gonna think what we put out there is total garbage.

Rejection helps us evolve as we figure out where we might need to change our course to help us find more of our people. It keeps us fresh. It keeps us relevant. It helps us learn more about how we can have the biggest impact on our people.

I'm proudly collecting a whole bunch of no's right now and I'm feeling like a total badass because I'm not giving up as I take new risks. It's gonna make those yes's for new opportunities coming real soon feel some good!!! 🥰

If we don't want to have more of what hasn't been working for us, we've gotta try on new approaches, reach out to new people and find new ways to share.

Don't ever let rejection mean that you don't have what it takes to pursue your dreams. Quite the contrary. It's telling you you're right on track for bigger and better things that you can't envision yet. Keep going!
