I’ve got goosebumps thinking about all of the amazing musicians who are donating their time to perform at our Musicians for Musicians 2017 concert to help raise money for AFM/CFM Local 820‘s NL Musicians’ Emergency Relief Fund. Tune into CBC TV’s “Here and Now” tonight to hear me speak about why I helped start up this fund as well as checking out these articles in The Overcast: https://theovercast.ca/jam-packed-line-up-for-nl-musicians-emergency-fund-show and The Muse: http://themuse.ca/2017/10/19/support-st-johns-musicians-show-at-the-ship-helps-musicians-in-need
A Fundraising Concert for the NLMA Musicians’ Emergency Relief Fund
Saturday October 21, 2017
The Ship Pub
Door opens at 7pm, $15 at the door.
Musicians are repeatedly called on, often to volunteer as performers, to raise funds to help others. On SATURDAY OCTOBER 21st at 8pm, the Newfoundland and Labrador Musicians’ Association will host Musicians for Musicians 2017 at The Ship Pub – a night in support of the NLMA Musicians’ Emergency Relief Fund.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Musicians’ Emergency Fund was established in 2012 by the NL Musicians’ Association – Local 820, to help working musicians in the province by providing emergency financial assistance in times of crisis. This assistance ensures they can afford essentials such as heat, light, and food in times of need. Since this fund was established, it has helped numerous musicians deal with sickness, fire damage, injury, and personal crisis. It is the only fund in the province aimed specifically at helping working musicians.
“In these situations, musicians can find it very difficult to afford daily necessities like food and utilities – this is compounded by our long, cold winter. With the support of the arts community and the wider population, AFM/CFM Local 820 has been able to manage a fund to help artists in need so that they can continue to work and create music here at home. – Greg Bruce, President, NL Musicians’ Association – AFM/CFM Local 820
