What musical levels does Rozalind teach?
I currently teach students of all levels and all ages. I love teaching students from the beginner to the advanced level. With over 25 years of teaching experience, I take pride in guiding others and consider it a wonderful privilege to be working with so many gifted people.
Where does Rozalind teach?
I teach private lessons online and in my downtown music studio in St. John’s, Newfoundland. I am happy to make house visits at an additional cost.
How long are flute lessons and how often should I expect to go?
I teach one hour lessons in my studio on a weekly basis. I also offer online sessions at various lengths.
When do you teach?
I usually teach on weekdays, both during the day and in the evening.
How much should I expect to pay?
My teaching rates vary depending whether they are weekly private music lessons, online lessons or group lessons at schools. For more details about my teaching rates, contact me directly at: rozalindmacphail@gmail.com or by phone: 1-709-769-8088.
Do I need my own flute?
Yes, you will, either one that you have rented from a music store, one borrowed from your school or if you’re lucky, the one you own! If you are buying your first flute I can help you pick the one that’s best for you.
Will I need to buy my own music?
Yes, some music will have to be purchased. After your first lesson we will discuss together what music will be needed based on your skill level, what you would like to learn and any other needs. I also recommend bringing a pen, pencil and having a blank notebook to write lesson notes in.
What should I expect at my first lesson?
This lesson will be a chance for both of us to get to know each other. I will probably ask you to play something for me that you enjoy performing and will ask you what your musical goals are. I may perform something for you to give you an idea of how I play. Please feel free to bring any music that you are currently working on. I enjoy teaching many musical styles. Most importantly, this is a chance for you to ask as many questions as you wish. I look forward to sharing what I have learned with you.
How much preparation do you require from the student in lessons?
That varies with each student. There is no real rule to how much I expect my students to practice as it depends a lot on the student’s goals, the pace at which they want to learn and how they grasp new concepts.
How do I book a lesson?
Feel free to email me at: rozalindmacphail@gmail.com or call: 1-709-769-8088. Once you have contacted me, you should hear from me within the week. We can set up an introductory lesson and if my teaching style suits you, we can set up a more regular lesson time.
