CBC Radio’s “First Listen”

Some CBC Newfoundland and Labrador love for the new album, DON’T LET ME FALL TOO FAR. An interview with lovely Weekend AM host, Heather Barrett for “First Listen”. We play some of my tunes and speak about the new album, touring, the gear I use, what it’s like to pursue a music career that’s totally outside of the box and why I love the St. John’s music scene so darn much. https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-72-weekend-am/clip/15745011-rozalind-macphail-plays-the-flute-but-thats-just-her-starting-point read more

Flute Love for “Fragments” on Exclaim and BBC Radio 6

It’s been an exciting time with the highly-anticipated album release of SIGHT by Toronto’s Pick A Piper. Caribou musician, Brad Weber invited me to record flute for his Pick a Piper track, “Fragments”. I sent him my flute takes with a twist. I recorded it for effected alto flute and focused on the percussive sounds I could create from the instrument. Looks like this great track is getting lots of love all over the world, including by the fine folks at Exclaim and BBC Radio 6 Music‘s 6 Music Recommends w/ Tom Ravenscroft. Right on Pick A Piper aka Brad Weber. Digging that the Ali Ryerson Gemeinhardt Musical Instruments alto flute is getting sexy spins around the world. P4 Västmanland Sveriges Radio Performance / Interview

Playing on P4 Västmanland Sveriges Radio was a heartwarming experience I will always remember. Don’t think I’ve ever felt so nervous performing live on air before. The room was electric! It’s a rare treat when you get to perform the world premiere of a piece in the country where the piece was composed and with your collaborative partners in the room. Sweden’s Mary Read were fantastic! Check out the performances and interviews.. My segment starts around 2/3rds of the way in but I recommend you check out Mary Read too. They are doing something truly unique and special as they mix Swedish folk music with electronics. Tack to Per Erik Jonsson for the excellent engineering! The East – Review of “Don’t Let Me Fall Too Far”

“It reminds me of the type of ethereal sound explored by artists like Kate Bush…The idea of this record being intended for live looping performance by a solo artist continues to haunt my listening experience; I really want to see that show.” Click here to read the review read more
