Here are a few common questions and brief answers from Rozalind about her teaching studio. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact her by email. She would be happy to answer all of your questions.
What musical levels does Rozalind teach?
I currently teach students of all levels. I love teaching students from the beginner to the advanced level. I also enjoy teaching students of all ages. With over 15 years of teaching experience, I take pride in guiding others and consider it a great privilege to be working with so many wonderful and gifted people.
Where does Rozalind teach?
I am currently offering private lessons in St. John’s, Newfoundland. I also make house visits while I’m on tour.
How long are flute lessons and how often should I expect to go?
I offer 55 minute lessons to students on a weekly basis. Some adult students find it hard to make it to their flute lesson each week and for those students, I offer a bi-weekly lesson plan.
When do you teach?
I usually teach on weekdays, both during the day and in the evening.
How much should I expect to pay?
My teaching rates are very reasonable. Please contact me directly for more details on my teaching rates.
Do I need my own flute?
Yes, you will, either one that you have rented from a music store, one borrowed from your school or if you’re lucky, the one you own! If you are buying your first flute Rozalind can help you pick the one that’s best for you.
Will I need to buy my own music?
Yes, some music will have to be purchased. After your first lesson we will discuss together what music will be needed based on your skill level, what you would like to learn and any other needs.
What should I expect at my first lesson?
This lesson will be a chance for both of us to get to know each other. I will probably ask you to play something for me that you enjoy performing as well as ask you what your musical goals are. I may even play something for you to give you an idea of how I play. Please feel free to bring any music that you are currently studying. I enjoy many musical styles and like teaching them all. Most importantly, this is a chance for you to ask as many questions as you wish about me what you can expect from lessons with me. I look forward to sharing my many learning experiences with you!
How much preparation do you require from the student in lessons?
That varies with each student. There is no real rule to how much I expect my students to practice as it depends a lot on the student’s goals, the pace at which you learn and grasp new concepts.
How do I book a lesson?
Feel free to email me at: lessons@rozalindmacphail.com. Once you have contacted me, you should hear from me within the week. We can set up an introductory lesson and if my teaching suits you, we can set up a more regular teaching time.
