Macaulay Muse

This is the second short film I have ever made, called, “Macaulay Muse.” Not sure if I should be sharing it with y’all or not but hey, it’s fun to check out the beginning stages of trying out something new.

I filmed this on 8mm and then Scott Amos hand processed it is his basement and transferred it. I set the music to it, on the road in Montreal using my omnichord, frog, glockenspiel and shaker. It’s footage I took in the Macaulay House (Dawson City, Yukon) in April 2009, no editing, just straight footage of the cool things in and outside the house. Lots say the house is haunted. I’d have to agree. The first Mayor of Dawson City used to live there. It was a very inspiring place for me and I am amazed at how many compositions I created during my time there. I scored pieces for short film. It probably goes down as being my most productive residency so far.

While in St. John’s this summer, I plan to be a sponge at the film co-op here called NIFCO. Should be a fun and productive summer!

I Heart St. John’s

Wow, is it ever great to be back in St. John’s, Newfoundland for the summer! I forgot just how beautiful this town is and how great the people are, how vibrant the artistic community is. Sometimes I wonder if I am making the right choices when I decide where I am going to live. I was concerned about living in Newfoundland for the summer as I knew that I would have to make a lot of sacrifices to get myself here. But you know what? It was TOTALLY WORTH IT. Actually, even more worth it than I thought it would be. Every Canadian should experience Newfoundland at least once in their lifetime. Newfoundlanders are the most beautiful people I have ever met.

I’m going to begin recording my new full-length album, “It Is What It Is” with recording engineer, Don Ellis very soon. Waiting on a Canada Arts Council grant and am keeping the fingers crossed!

Have an outrageous summer everyone. : )

Thank you Toronto, Hello Montreal

A little bit of an update of where I am and what I’m up to right now. I just left Toronto, after performing a super fun show at the Cameron House. It warmed my heart to see people sitting on the stairs and on the floor at the front of the stage. I could not have wished for a better turnout. Then I went on to perform at the Black Sheep in Wakefield and once again, had one of the most enjoyable performances of the tour to date. Oh how I love Wakefield and the Black Sheep. What a magical place.

I’m off to Montreal, to open for one of my favourite Montreal bands, Flotilla. We’ll be performing at O Patro Vys on Saturday June 6th. My set will be on the shorter side so make sure to get there early! I’m starting at 9pm. Courtney Wing will follow.
