Ableton Live Sample Flute Pack

Woke up to something super cool this morning. This is a dream come true for me! I collaborated with #Ableton Live Certified Trainer, AfroDJMac and he created a sound sample pack of my flute sounds for Ableton Live. There are lots of really cool sounds in this but you need Ableton 10 to use it. Check out the video and share the link with your Ableton friends. So neat! https://youtu.be/mjRBZo2t_1w read more

ECMA Nomination for SUNSET SUNRISE

Say what?!!! SUNSET SUNRISE got nominated for an East Coast Music Association (ECMA) award for Electronic Recording of the Year!!! Who would have thought that a recording we created with so much love for our dearly departed loved ones, Graham Howcroft and Ryan Parke would be celebrated like this. What a huge honour it is to be nominated for this award.  We took inspiration from the St. John’s sunrises/sunsets last February for the RPM Challenge. Much of the musical inspiration came from early Kraftwerk and the beautiful effected flute of Paul Horn.   Sending a great big hug and a deep bow of gratitude to my musical partners, Kim Henninger and

New Recording Project

It’s an exciting day for this flute looper, a moment I’ve been working towards for many months now. I begin the first of three new recording projects which will have me digging into completely new territory and collaborating with people I greatly admire. We’re combining: two of my favourite instruments (a gorgeous Gemeinhardt Musical Instruments effected alto flute and omnichord), my favourite poem (“The Invitation” by Canadian author, Oriah Mountain Dreamer), one seriously inspiring yoga instructor (Jenn King of Moksha Yoga Halifax) and one of our favourite practices, Yin Yoga. read more

New Brunswick Tour / MusicNL Award Nomination

Home sweet home in St. John’s after driving 6400 km. From St. John’s to Fredericton to Saint John to Evandale to Sussex to Bathurst to Lameque Island to Cheticamp Island to Stephenville to Burgeo and the long drive home. 2 awesome mechanics for the flat tire and cranky muffler, so many beautiful sunsets, inspiring music, my lovely Acadian family, delicious food and so much more. To top it all off? Arriving at home to discover a MusicNL nomination for Instrumental Recording of the Year for SUNSET SUNRISE! It feels good to be home with this warm heart and so many wonderful memories. To all of you who I was so fortunate to spend time with on the road, THANK YOU. Sending a special thanks to Floodstock and Third Shift – Art Works After Dark in Saint John for such amazing performing experiences. I can’t wait to tour through New Brunswick again. read more

Video Release: “Now Accepting Food Stamps” in The Overcast

I used my Super 8 camera in Wilmington, North Carolina during my Cucalorus Festival Artist Residency and hand-processed three rolls of film with the help of Andre Silva and Mariah Kramer at UNCW Film Studies. Thanks to Dan Brawley in 2014 for giving me his precious rolls of film! “Now Accepting Food Stamps” was my reaction to feeling heartbroken about the poverty and racism I was witnessing down South. With all that’s been going on in our current world climate, it feels right to share this film. https://theovercast.ca/a-sneak-peak-of-rozalind-macphails-ecma-winning-audio-visual-project read more
